“Proven cow families along with the most proven and progressive cutting-edge sires are the blueprint for our foundation. We believe the goal posts for success are phenotype and genotype working hand in hand,” says Charlie Boyd II.

Thirty-three years in the Angus business is no small feat, but the Boyd family has been raising registered cattle since 1893. Charlie Sr. was an early adopter of artificial insemination (AI) and embryo transfer, which resulted in AI sires, national show champions and sale toppers.

This legacy of using technology has resulted in impressive results for Charlie and Paula, along with proven cow families. They began their herd with two paternal sisters by Leachman Right Time — SVF Forever Lady 57D and BT Everelda Entense 43J.

While they previously marketed their cattle through the show ring and still enjoy success there, they know they provide genetics for the commercial cattleman with the end product in mind. They focus on balancing maternal qualities with performance traits, in addition to balancing phenotypes and genotypes.

This balance has resulted in 31 AI stud sires, but Charlie is most proud of the friendships he’s developed and that sons Blake and Logan are now the fifth generation joining Boyd Beef Cattle.

They host an annual bull sale the second Saturday in March, and an Angus female sale the fourth Saturday in September.
