Recognizing Outstanding Young Leaders

The Jim Baldridge Outstanding Leadership Award recognizes a member of the National Junior Angus Association for exemplary leadership in the Angus breed and beyond. The recipient is announced annually at the National Junior Angus Show and receives a $5,000 academic scholarship.

2022 Outstanding Leadership Award Recipient: Ellie Kidwell

The Outstanding Leadership Award was created by Bill and Betty Werner in honor of Jim Baldridge – a lifetime member and supporter of the American Angus Association – to recognize an honorable youth leader. By displaying a desire to lead by example, Kidwell embodies the qualities the award was designed to recognize.

Leadership

The Angus Foundation provides support for the NJAA’s Raising the Bar and Leaders Engaged in Angus Development (LEAD) conferences through the Angus Fund. These annual events provide opportunities for juniors to learn, network and develop as future industry leaders.

Leaders Engaged in Angus Development

The LEAD conference travels to a new state each year, exposing NJAA members to different sectors of the agriculture industry. While exploring the region, youth gain perspective on unique agricultural practices, explore potential career opportunities and enhance their leadership skills through activities and speakers.

Raising the Bar

At the Raising the Bar conference, NJAA members visit a university with a strong agriculture program to gain insight on the institution, helping prepare them to determine their future plans. Attendees also network with peers from around the country, participate in personal development workshops and visit industry-relevant attractions in the area.
