FOUNDATION IN FOCUS
Designing for Tomorrow, Today
When planning for the future, we often begin by drawing designs, blueprints or strategic plans.

These plans must be carefully reviewed and evaluated to ensure they are practical, sustainable and capable of standing the test of time. Experts dedicate significant effort to creating detailed blueprints that prioritize longevity and preservation, ensuring projects remain viable for years to come. In much the same way, the Angus Foundation assists individuals in planning their legacy while supporting the long-term sustainability of the Angus breed and its community.
Through planned or deferred gifts, donors can make a significant impact on the Angus Foundation’s mission and programs. Contributions can be directed as unrestricted gifts to the Angus Fund or designated to a specific program that aligns with a donor’s passion.
Various forms of giving allow for flexibility in supporting the Angus Foundation, including general cash gifts, bequests or estates, life insurance gifts, trusts or gift annuities. A financial advisor or attorney can assist in incorporating the Angus Foundation into estate planning, ensuring a donor’s legacy continues for future generations.
Planning for the future also requires an understanding of the past. The best blueprints hold very little value unless they are built upon a strong foundation. The Angus Foundation’s history exemplifies this principle, as its numerous past projects have significantly contributed to the furthering the Angus breed.
Funding programs
Through the years, the Angus Foundation has funded critical research projects, including advancements in Angus genetics, efficiency in feed conversion and disease resistance. Angus Foundation-funded studies have explored genomic selection tools to enhance breeding accuracy, optimize nutrition strategies to improve herd health, and evaluate environmental sustainability practices within Angus operations. These research initiatives have helped equip breeders with insights to make informed decisions and enhance herd productivity.
The Angus Foundation has also supported youth development programs through the National Junior Angus Association (NJAA), providing scholarships, educational initiatives and leadership training opportunities to empower the next generation of Angus breeders and industry leaders. The continued focus on research and education ensures the long-term prosperity of the Angus breed and the cattle industry.
An example of planned giving would be the estate gift of Ed and Wilma Minix. The Minixes deemed the Angus Foundation the beneficiary in 2014, as their wish was to make a difference in the lives of Angus youth. After Wilma’s passing in 2021, the estate gift was used to provide unrestricted funds towards the Raising the Bar conference and support the newly named Minix Stockman Contest.
Through visionary planning and dedicated support, the Angus Foundation continues to strengthen its impact on the industry. By considering planned giving, donors not only ensure the continuation of their legacy, but also contribute to a future where the Angus breed thrives. Just as a well-drawn blueprint is essential to constructing a lasting structure, a thoughtful giving plan is key to securing a sustainable future for the Angus community.
