The rush of calving season and seeing new matings hit the ground always excites me.

As this is my last year serving the National Junior Angus Association (NJAA), I reflect on the mindset this program showed me. With Angus cattle and the world’s best junior program, the sky is truly the limit.

It is time to amplify yourself to reach your highest potential. The beginning of a calendar year is powerful, but not only in the sense of setting resolutions. It is a great reset button. I challenge you to make three goals and write them down. One in your academics, one in your extracurriculars, and one with your Angus. Continuously check these goals the first week of every month.

Set goals, not resolutions

I want to shift your perspective when making those goals. Make most of your goals about significance compared to tangible personal success. Look at those goals, and ask yourself if they are for personal success or actual significance. Significance is when you use your talents to better something.

Significance will always be more important than singular successes

I hope to see you hitting your stride in what you love within this breed in ’25. I am here cheering you on with every step you take in the ring, every goal you have reached in your operation, and all opportunities you take to be significant.
