Angus genetics showcased at 2025 Cattlemen’s Congress Pen & Carload Show

Angus producers competed for top honors during the 2025 Cattlemen’s Congress Angus Pen & Carload Show, Jan. 10 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Two carloads and 17 pens-of-three were showcased.
Jeremy Leister, Fairmont, Okla.; David Dal Porto, Anselmo, Neb.; and Brian Barragree, Absarokee, Mont., evaluated the bulls and heifers before selecting champions.
Express Angus Ranches, Yukon, Okla., claimed grand champion carload, with eight January 2024 bulls sired by Basin Jameson 1076, EXAR Vanguard 0614B, RSA True Balance 1311, EXAR Cover The Bases 0819B, and Virginia Tech Statesman. The group weighed an average of 1,540 pounds and posted an average scrotal circumference of 38.3 centimeters. The bulls first claimed junior calf champion.
Deer Valley Farm, Fayetteville, Tenn., exhibited the reserve grand champion carload, with eight August, September and October bulls sired by Connealy Commerce, K C F Bennett Exponential, Connealy Craftsman, Virginia Tech Statesman, and GB Fireball 672. The bulls posted an average weight of 1,641 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 40.0 centimeters. The bulls first claimed champion yearling.
Boyd Beef Cattle, May’s Lick, Ky., showcased the grand champion pen of three bulls with January 2024 sons of Yon Saluda and Boyd Bellringer 2010. The trio posted an average weight of 1,415 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 38.3 centimeters. The bulls first won early calf champion.
Express Angus Ranches captured the reserve grand champion pen of three bulls after first claiming reserve early calf champion. The September 2023 sons of SG Salvation, RSA True Balance 1311, and Virginia Tech Statesman posted an average weight of 1,668 pounds and an average scrotal circumference of 40.7 centimeters.
Oklahoma State Purebred Center, Stillwater, Okla., captured the grand champion pen of three heifers. February 2024 daughters of SG Salvation and EXAR Cover the Bases 0819B posted an average weight of 1,029 pounds. She first claimed early calf champion.
Cunningham Ranch, Amber, Okla., captured the reserve grand champion pen of three heifers after first winning reserve early calf champion. The January 2024 daughters of Connealy Commerce and EXAR Vanguard 0614B posted an average weight of 1,059 pounds.
