Two of my favorites are “Enhance Membership Experience and Success” and “Serve as a Trusted Industry Resource.”

Angus University is a great resource to answer questions you might have as a member. If you’re a brand new member to the American Angus Association or a lifelong breeder, Angus University is an extremely valuable way to get the information you may be looking for. Angus University is a webpage dedicated to education in the form of webinars and helpful quick interactive fact sheets.

The mission of Angus University is to provide programs, resources, opportunities and technology to enhance the knowledge of Angus members and beef producers. The vision of Angus University is to be a primary source of beef industry education worldwide. Angus University was founded in 2020 to provide education and resources to both junior and adult members of the American Angus Association as well as the beef industry.

It is our goal to empower and equip our members with the resources and information needed to better themselves and their operations, provide a limitless platform that evolves over time, advance Angus education through technology and resources, and serve as a source for all facets of beef industry education.

Live webinars are one of the best ways to benefit from Angus University. The current webinars are on www.angus.org, with a schedule and a link to follow to register via Zoom. As a registered attendee, you can ask questions after the presentation.

Another added feature is the ability to ask questions prior to the live webinar if your schedule does not allow for the live viewing. By registering to view live, you will receive a notification letting you know the webinar is available to view if you were unable to watch live. Angus University archives all the webinars on the Angus University homepage for reference, so you can view as many times as you may need.

In total there are more than twenty videos and webinars with a wide array of topics available for viewing. The most recent episode is titled “Hair Shed: Novel Trait With Large Production Impacts with Jared Decker and Jamie Courter.” The previous webinar was hosted by Kelli Retallick-Riley as she discusses bovine congestive heart failure in beef cattle. There are also videos on timed artificial insemination (AI) protocol and calf health management along with how to correctly form contemporary groups. The National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) has an overview, as well. Like I stated earlier, something for everyone.

How to access the webinars

On the Angus University webpage, you will be directed to the Angus University page for all the free webinars available.

Other resources available on the Angus University page are Herd Management, Tools and Services, Association Info and Junior Programs. A Quick Links section is available as well. These helpful fact sheets can guide you through the basics of Login to an interactive tutorial on reading the Performance Registration Certificate (PRC). Also included are definitions of expected progeny differences (EPDs) and dollar value indexes ($Values) and contemporary groups.

I hope this will encourage all members to take advantage of Angus University and will help everyone understand topics, create discussion and find value in the resources provided.
