Angus Foundation Silent Auction Raises $11,900

Silent Auction proceeds will benefit the Angus Foundation and its youth, education and research efforts.

Many Angus supporters came together at the National Junior Angus Show (NJAS) in Kansas City, Mo., to support the 2013 Angus Foundation Silent Auction July 8-11, which grossed $11,900 in proceeds benefiting the Foundation’s education, youth and research programs. Individual donors and state Angus associations contributed 116 items to the 18^th annual auction.

“Always an enjoyable activity at the NJAS, the silent auction over the years has become a popular activity for show attendees,” says Milford Jenkins, Angus Foundation president. “Spirited bidding between Angus friends, even family members, makes for wonderful fun with everyone having a shared interest of raising funds and helping the Angus Foundation. Without our generous donors and bidders, this fundraiser wouldn’t be possible!” 

Bill, Donna and Trey Conley of Conley Angus, Clarksdale, Mo., purchased the top-selling item for $700. This item was a hand-crafted whiskey barrel wine cellar and was donated by the “Aberdeen in Twenty Thirteen” 2013 NJAS Committee.

The second high-selling item was a hand-made toy corral set, complete with animals. The set was donated by Leo and Sam McDonnell, Columbus, Mont., and Steve and Ginger Olson of Olson Cattle Company, Hereford, Texas, were the winning bidders on this item for $600.

From its inception in 1995, the silent auction has grown annually as a fundraiser that generates unrestricted financial support for various activities sponsored by the Angus Foundation, such as the Leaders Engaged in Angus Development (LEAD) Conference, Cattlemen’s Boot Camps and research projects that find solutions for the Angus breed and cattle industry.
