This way of life doesn't take care of you. You have to take care of it. That's what he always told me. I love what I do, but it doesn't always love me. You plan things, planning every day, and it's a million in one that will test the greatest abilities. An entire year of work can be over in a minute. Calving, feeding, logistics, fencing, AI, data management, all of it. And you have to know what you're doing, for their sake, because failing alone is one thing. When you have a family that's counting on you, that's unlike any pressure you've ever felt. You can never tell them you don't know how to do something or you can't do something. You've got to find a way. You are a patriotic respect that serves in a different way. You're the drumbeat for an industry whose lineage is unmatched. You're a guide of unalienable faith. You are teachers of the past and leaders for the future. We're there for every show, from their first to their last. Someday, they'll thank you. They'll understand the sacrifice. When that moment comes, it'll all be worth it.
